Abstract

A study has been made of the effect of temperature on the steady state oxidation of formic acid on platinized platinum electrodes in 0.5 M HCOOH+0.5 M H2SO4. The activation energy and entropy of activation for the anodic oxidation process decrease sharply with increase in electrode potential. The results provide additional evidence that the weakly adsorbed intermediate pathway proceeds through a rate-determining step involving the dissociation of weakly adsorbed formic acid molecule.
