Abstract
Abstract In strong acids, the reaction of Cu0, CuI or CuII compounds with atmospheric NO at room temperature results in the formation of the copper(II) nitrosyl cation, [CuNO]2+, during which the oxidation of Cu0 to CuII is accompanied by the formation of N2 and N2O, whereas the oxidation of CuI to CuII results in the formation of N2O without a significant amount of N2.
