Abstract

A cationic macromolecule, poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDAC) has been used for controlling crystallization of calcium carbonate. Continuous amorphous calcium carbonate (ACC) films and pyramidal calcites were formed on the plat substrates. The concentration and molecular weight of cationic macromolecules effect on crystallization. The ACC film was highly soluble in water and calcites were anisotropically etched by water. It was found that cationic macromolecule can interact with ACC in spite of repulsive force between ACC and macromolecule.
