Abstract
The oxidation of n-pentane at VPO catalyst was studied in two-step catalytic reactor, and it was shown that phthalic anhydride is formed by Diels–Alder reaction between maleic anhydride and 1,3-butadiene. The selectivity in phthalic anhydride was increased by the introduction of additives that increase the Lewis acidity of the catalyst surface to the basic VPO composition, by reducing the temperature in the lower part of catalytic reactor, and layer-by-layer loading various VPO catalysts with different acidic properties into the reactor.
