Abstract

Oxygen vacancies are created in quartz by artificial γ-ray irradiation at two stages with very low efficiencies. G values ( G: number of vacancies created per 100eV) were found to be 4.7 × 10 −4 and 2.6 × 10 −5 at heat-treated E′ 1 intensities. The intensities are consistent with those observed in natural quartz in granites, when external doses given by β and γ rays to quartz in granites are taken into account with the above efficiencies.
