Abstract

The technology under development for processing slag from the Balkhash copper production obtained by remelting electrolyte sludge. It includes sulphiding sintering, leaching and extraction of metals from solutions and cake. The process of sulphidization of metal oxides during slag sintering was investigated. Sintering was carried out with additives of sodium sulfate and carbon at temperatures of 500–800 °C. The shapes of the metals in the samples were determined using electronic microanalysis. It is shown that at 800 °C, almost all non-ferrous metals in the slag passed into the sulphide form. The advantage of the technology is the rejection of the remelting of this type slag and the primary processing of slag at moderate temperatures.
