Abstract

1. During high-speed power grinding, the temperature in the zone of contact between the abrasive and metal being machined is above the melting point of this metal. 2. During high-speed power grinding, homogenizing, recrystallization, and coagulation processes develop in the TMI zone together with polymorphic transformations. This leads to variation in physical and mechanical properties of the surface. 3. The thickness of the TMI zone is determined by the grinding conditions, the thermal conductivity of the metal, and the characteristics of the abrasive tool. It can be roughly assumed that during high-speed power grinding, the thickness of the TMI zone is commensurate with the depth of grinding.
