Abstract

Formation of the metastable crystalline phase in the amorphous Fe 74R 6B 20 alloys (R = Ce, Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy and Er) in the course of crystallization was investigated by X-ray diffraction. Formation of metastable phases was found for the first time in the case of R = Ce, Tb, Dy and Er. In Fe 74Ce 6B 20, the metastable phase was characterized as Ce 2Fe 23B 3 of a cubic crystal system and body-centered lattice which was identical to those reported in the case of R = Nd, Sm and Gd. The space group of this phase was determined to be I 43 d (No. 220). In the case of R = Tb, Dy and Er, the structure of the metastable phase was found to be of a cubic crystal system and of the body-centered lattice, and the space group of this phase was suggested to be Im3m (No. 229).
