Abstract

It has been demonstrated that internally oxidised silver-metal oxide composites can be formed by laser melting if an oxygen gas jet is directed on to the melt pool. Me tallographic and electron microprobe investigations have distinguished two types of tin oxide precipitate. The applicability of this technique to the production of Ag–SnO2 material for electrical contact applications is discussed.
