Abstract

Potato plants, with all organized buds removed, produced bud-forming callus on stems, roots and seed pieces. With the exception of roots, callus developed only on surfaces of cuts which exposed the vascular system. Formation of callus on stems and tubers tended to be restricted to cut surfaces facing the base. Differences in callus and wound periderm ormation are discussed and reinterpretation of wound periderm formation is suggested.
