Abstract

As-cast Ti-Nb-Mo alloys of 4 compositions with commensurate contents of Nb and Ti were obtained by arc-melting and tested for oxidation resistance at 700 °C. For an alloy with a high Mo content, weight loss was observed due to the evaporation of MoO 3 . In alloys enriched in Nb and Ti, a constant increase in mass was found, caused by the formation of an oxide layer. SEM studies of microstructure and electron probe micro analysis of obtained oxides were carried out. It was found by X-ray diffraction analysis that the oxides consist of a mixture of rutile (based on TiO 2 ) and a new phase Wadsley-Roth type of the composition Ti 2 Nb 7 MoO 25 ( a = 1.5689, c = 0.3795 nm).
