Abstract
In this paper, a two-species Lotka-Volterra diffusive system with inter-specific competition has been considered. We have observed that this system may give rise to the spontaneous emergence of a dissipative structure only in the presence of cross-diffusion. The critical wave length just sufficient to perturb the system into local instability has been worked out. We have also investigated the global behaviour of such types of dissipative structures with the help of a suitable Liapunov function.
