Abstract

The structural change with temperature in the bulk and near-surface layers of a pulverized Fe83B17 amorphous alloy was studied using transmission Mössbauer spectroscopy, conversion electron Mössbauer spectroscopy, and x-ray diffraction. The paramagnetic component, γ-Fe, was formed as a metastable phase in the bulk of the amorphous Fe-B alloy. The neighboring boron atoms might stabilize the γ-Fe phase.
