Formation of (η 2-O 2)Co(CO) and (η 2-O 2)Co(CO) 2 by photolysis of Co 2(CO) 8 in dioxygen matrices at 20 K

Abstract

UV irradiation of Co 2(CO) 8 in a pure O 2 matrix generates the oxocarbonyl intermediates (η 2-O 2)Co(CO) 3 and (η 2-O 2) Co(CO) 2, which have been identified by IR spectroscopy including isotopic substitution with 18O. These species are the same as those made previously by cocondensation of Co atoms with CO/O 2 mixtures.
