Abstract
Anomalous magnetic bubble domains have been detected in garnet films after chopping stripe domains with a high intensity pulsed field. These bubbles have smaller diameters than typically observed bubbles under low bias fields. These small-size bubbles remain stable within a narrow bias field range, above which they collapse and below which they transit irreversibly into larger elliptical bubbles. The contrast exhibited by these bubbles in Faraday images is different from that of larger bubbles, suggesting that the magnetization of the small-size bubbles lies in the film plane.
