Abstract

Despite the large glass formation region in the lithium neodymium silicate system, most compositionsexhibit either stable or metastable immiscibility. The properties of these glasses are primarily controlled by the microstructure of samples. Tie-lines in this system follow lines of constant Nd/Li ratio. Addition of neodymium oxide to lithium silicate glasses results in increases in density, glass transformation temperature and electrical conductivity. Results of this study are adequately explained on the basis of existing understanding of the effect of phase separation of glasses on their properties.
