Abstract

The main parameters of the laser action zones (microhardness, depth, tribotechnical characteristics, alloying element distribution) when carbon steels are laser-borided with powder composites based on high-boron high-melting compounds are investigated. It is demonstrated that the mass transfer of alloying elements into the pool of molten metal can be increased effectively by incorporating a surface-active element into the powder composites.
