Abstract

The formation of different aluminium oxide microstructures on the offset printing plate during the plate making process influences the plate’s ability to adsorb and repel fluids. Adsorbing and repelling of the fountain solution and ink during the offset printing process have major influence on the plate’s stability and print quality. The aim of this research was to define the micro structural changes in the aluminium oxide layer during the plate making process, their influence on the surface free energy of the oxide, as well as contact angles of the adsorbed fluids.
