Abstract

The article challenges the assumption that there are objective aesthetic values. The basis of this challenge is drawn from arguments presented by J.L. Mackie in Ethics, where he argues against the existence of objective moral values. The article concludes by claiming that the task before us is to create, rather than discover, the essence of aesthetic merit. This has important implications for cultural economists, aestheticians, and others.
