Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe and compare mean values of intelligence among university students of Engineering and Pedagogy in a regional state university in Chile. The Raven Test was applied to 220 participants, corresponding to general population (no university students) and to university students of engineering and pedagogy. It was found a high intelligence quotient in students of both groups, higher than in the general population and similar intelligence quotient between engineering students and pedagogy students. In the sub scales differences in scores were not found except in the subscale that has the highest degree of difficulty. The general results are in agreement with classical theories on intelligence but also indicate that differences between careers could be found, especially during the senior level of the university studies.
