Abstract
Programs to train specialists offered by Schools of Medicine have undoubtedly made a contribution to national medicine by taking on the challenge of making available graduate physicians whose training matches current scientific advancement and the country’s needs.Study programs need to be constantly updated in order to ensure a flawless practice of a given field of expertise, ensuring the quality of training under the supervision of graduate schools.The article emphasizes the significant contribution made in recent years by the School of Medicine of the Universidad de Chile to the training of specialists in the field of medicine and these figures are supplemented by specialists trained by other Schools of Medicine.

Los programas de formación de especialistas ofrecidos por las facultades de Medicina han hecho un indudable aporte al ámbito médico, aceptando el desafío de ofrecer egresados preparados en concordancia con los avances de la ciencia y las necesidades del país. Los planes de estudios deben ser permanentemente reevaluados con el fin de garantizar un ejercicio irreprochable de la especialidad, de manera de asegurar la calidad formativa bajo la supervisión de las escuelas de posgrado. El artículo destaca el significativo aporte hecho en los últimos años por parte de la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad de Chile a la formación de médicos especialistas para el país, cifra que se complementa con aquellos preparados por otras instituciones universitarias
