Abstract
We discuss in detail, by dispersion-theoretic techniques, the contribution of W ± particles to the form factors of leptons in the gauge theory of weak interactions. It is shown that the form factors are highly divergent in the U-gauge. By calculating fourth order diagrams with W − W + and Z ϕ intermediate states for lepton-lepton elastic scattering, we show that in spite of the divergent behaviour of the unphysical form factors in the U-gauge, the fourth order corrections to the S -matrix elements of lepton-lepton elastic scattering are finite in the same gauge.
