Abstract
This chapter discusses the work of forensic psychologists in the court setting, specifically criminal and family courts. The expert assessments of defendants, complainants and witnesses are discussed, as is the various stages of criminal court in which these may take place. The process of an assessment and what this can involve is detailed, as are the court skills that are required of an expert witness psychologist. The family court context is also explored. This chapter highlights the need for objectivity and the importance of ongoing professional development in this specialist area of work.
