Abstract
This is a review of the monograph “Conflict Communication From the Point of View of Forensic Linguistics” by A. A. Plotnikova (Ekaterinburg, 2017 - 197 p.). The monograph addresses the problems of expertise of conflict communication from the point of view of contemporary Russian forensic (legal) linguistics. The author analyses contemporary Russian conflict communication as containing linguistic and legal phenomena in their close interaction. The first chapter of the monograph gives a detailed characteristic to methodological principles of linguistic expertise and the limitations of an expert; it discusses the correlation between a legal term and a common word; it raises controversial issues of address and reference in forensic linguistics and conflict potential of documents, political, fiction, advertising and creolized texts. The second chapter analyzes conflict situation as a tool of violence against a person and describes the problems of linguistic expertise in cases of insult, threat, slander, and honour and dignity protection. Appendix might be of great interest to specialists, it contains a list of typical questions of linguistic analysis (linguistic expertise) and texts of experts’ conclusions. The monograph is intended for use by linguists, lawyers, document, advertising and PR specialists, as well as a wide audience of those interested in the theory and practice of institutional communication.
