Abstract

Focusing on exposing foreign publics to national values via the practices of foreign correspondents, this chapter addresses the uncertainty management in public diplomacy. It highlights the multiple roles foreign correspondents play in media landscapes in which social media are normalized as ‘digital public diplomacy’. Based on a discussion of four cases centered on the United States, the United Kingdom, Israel and China, this chapter proposes a new, digital media enabled, relation-network based model to study the roles of foreign correspondents in public diplomacy networks encompassing its institutions, news organizations, foreign correspondents and foreign publics.
