Abstract

Over the decades, wireless industry has experienced the revolutionary transition from the first generation (1G) to the second generation (2G) and towards the third (3G)/fourth (4G) generation wireless technologies. The increasing demands for high-quality multimedia services today are challenging the wireless industry to rapidly migrate the existing wireless network architecture and technologies. The paper presents the evolution of wireless technology transition using the Loglet analysis tool. We attempt to trace the transition of wireless technologies with historical data, and then analyse its pattern. Our result can provide insight to wireless service providers where best to focus its efforts as well as when to establish the transition strategy towards the next generation wireless network technologies.
