Abstract

All forceps operations are associated with a higher incidence of several birth-related injuries. Low forceps operations do not appear to significantly increase infant morbidity, but mid forceps deliveries are a subject of controversy. Suggestions are made for reducing the need for mid forceps deliveries and for the more liberal use of cesarean section whenever an easy forceps delivery is not expected.
