Abstract

The problem of the forced resonant vibrations and dissipative self-heating of a hinged flexible beam with piezoelectric sensors and actuators is formulated taking into account the in-plane shear strain. The effect of geometrical nonlinearity, in-plane shear strain, and heat transfer conditions on the beam surfaces on the amplitude- and temperature–frequency characteristics of the beam as well as on the thermal failure of the system is studied. The possibility of active damping of the flexural vibration mode with piezoactuators and sensors is examined.
