Abstract

Polishing force is very significant for studying polishing mechanism and improving polishing process. In order to predict polishing force, the distribution of polishing force in process of polishing blade with abrasive cloth wheel was simplified. Two different polishing force models were established, and the two models were evaluated, and then the final effective model was determined. The final effective model is only related to the contact arc length of polishing process, and the polishing force is decomposed into cutting force and friction force, and the mathematical model of cutting force and friction force is given. The polishing forces and contact arc lengths under different process parameters were measured by experiments, and the coefficients of the model were obtained. Experiments show that the polishing force increases sharply when the compression is large and the size of abrasive cloth wheel is small, which makes the predicted value of the model differ greatly from the measured value. Therefore, the model can only be applied to the polishing process when polishing force is less than 10 N.
