Abstract

Abstract An overview of force measurement is presented. After a brief historical survey, the principles and fundamental challenges of force measurement are outlined. Examples of commercially available force measurement transducers and techniques are then described in more detail, with emphasis placed on the wire/foil resistor strain gauge. Finally, force transducer calibration and measurement uncertainty is provided. A glossary of terms commonly used in force measurement is included.
