Abstract

More time is available for foraging by Cinereous Vultures Aegypius monachus in summer, but in winter they maximize flight time by starting close to sunrise. Vultures nesting in mountains begin to fly earlier than those in plains because of wind producing ‘slope-lift’. Rain impedes flight for whole days in winter. In general, time devoted to foraging may depend upon both food availability and soaring conditions.
