Abstract

RNA-guided DNA endonucleases such as those from CRISPR-Cas systems were considered limited to prokaryotes. Saito etal.1 reveal that distant eukaryotic relatives of Cas nucleases, called Fanzors, also function as RNA-guided DNA endonucleases and can be harnessed for genome editing.
