Abstract

Food waste is a significant socioeconomic and environmental problem. Recent research has provided more evidence, particularly considering the UNO's sustainable development goals. Many factors accelerate food wastage, and most studies consider food waste quantification a technique to reduce food wastage, where multiple classical and manual methods have been applied. However, in most studies, food waste quantification is deployed to measure single or specific waste, not considering the additional contributing factors. Also, multiple studies highlighted the importance of different factors that helps in food waste reduction. The paper provides a comprehensive literature review linking many food waste factors for food waste quantification. In addition, we provide two diagrams that show methods and critical areas where food waste quantification helps in the policymaking process to reduce wasting food.
