Abstract

In an emerging economy like India where recent reports about malnutrition and stunned growth among children are not only alarming but also shameful and require urgent public attention, reaching food to the poor is the duty of government food security bill is one big leap in this discretion, which still has to go through process of parliament, But its true depends upon food productivity and a transparent mechanism of distribution. Growth of economy creates opportunities and it is important to seize them so that growth becomes sustenance. There are many areas where ample opportunities lie for new initiative. It is widely accepted that we have still miles to go in eradicating poverty and drawing into the main stream of our economy the segments of population that are currently marginalized and live on the fringes. The very first step towards this is to make that no one is deprived of basic food and all attain minimal nutritional standards. These have been new initiatives on this front, such as food security bill. Though the bill is yet to go through the parliament it keeps stopping controversy. In public doubts are being raised about the implementation of viability of the project. Still, there is no clarity about the cost involved. Estimate swing between one crore to RS 4 Lakhs Crore. The enormity of the expected subsidy has great tendency to share already finances of the Govt.
