Abstract
A basic knowledge of bacteriology is essential for all those who work with food. Where are pathogenic bacteria commonly found? How may they be transmitted to food? What conditions favour the multiplication of the pathogens? How can food be protected against contamination? This is the information required to reduce the food poisoning outbreaks which reached a record number in 1976. To encourage readers to refresh their own knowledge, we invite them to take part in our New Year Quiz. The Dettol Information Bureau, which has produced the excellent poster on food poisoning bacteria shown on page, has generously offered a Dettol First Aid Kit as a prize for the first twenty correctly answered forms received at our offices.
