Abstract
Though the negative allelopathic effects of tree leaf extracts on crop production have been very well documented (Swaminathan et al 1989; Swaminathan et al 1990) still tree leaves extracts offer potential for development of new bio-formulations, which would be used as growth stimulants, pest and diseases control agents as well as growth tonics for providing an environmentally compatible crop production. The use of natural tree leaf extracts as crop health tonics are attractive, due to the increasing need for, eco-friendly safe and selective bio formulations, for total health care in crop production. It’s the high time to explore fully the information available in the ancient texts and find a new way out and accordingly a decade of research work done on these lines are presented in this paper in a nutshell. The methodologies and practices adopted for cultivating different crops under this type of research work has been collectively put together and evolved a new terminology called Vrikshayurvedic Farming.
