Abstract

ABSTRACTChaupinela (November 1974–November 1975) was an Argentinian humor magazine that became a best seller. It also became an experimental field for comics as a central and renewed genre and a surviving spinoff of the magazine Satiricón, that had been shut down due to official censorship policies. As a main staff author across the twenty issues of Chaupinela, Roberto Fontanarrosa mixed a selection of popular and traditional narratives with cinematographic imagination to involve the literary order in the more democratic arenas of press sensationalism and daily life. The result is an anthology of parodic pieces that reveals its postmodern and self-conscious operations.
