Abstract

Müllerian inhibiting substance (MIS) is produced and secreted by granulosa cells. The presence of higher concentrations of MIS in the sera and follicular fluid (FF) of women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is well documented. The cause of the elevated MIS levels is unclear. However, some studies have attributed the higher MIS concentration detected in serum of women with PCOS to be due to the greater number of follicles that are typically present in women with this disorder. The objective of this study is to measure MIS levels in the sera and FF of single follicles from patients with PCOS, tubal factor (TF) or male factor (MF) infertility undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) to determine if MIS production differs between groups.
