Abstract

THE history of the Folk-lore Society, as illuminated by the various presidential addresses, shows how the field of folklore has been extended by thought-provoking writings to cover a vast area of human behaviour. Folklore has no monopoly over this area but shares it with such separate disciplines as anthropology, comparative history of religion, of art, of literature, of music, etc. After rereading my friend Allan Gomme's account in his address of I9521, I am emboldened to carry that story a stage further.
