Abstract

In the development of Tamil literature, a wide variety of literary genres of various structures have emerged from time to time. Genres of literature that have flourished and developed in one period have declined and disappeared in later periods. This will be in accordance with the likes and dislikes of the people and according to their needs. At the beginning of the 20th century, structuralism was developed in linguistics and then gained influence in various academic fields and was used in various fields such as literature, folklore, anthropology, social sciences, etc. In this way, the structural analysis approach was also used in folktales. Thus, the purpose of this article is to examine the folk tales collected in the Namakkal region in line with the structural theory of Propp.
