Abstract

Evidence is given for the existence of a folded lamellar structure above the so-called pretransition before chain melting in lecithin-water systems. The structure consists of lamellar units with vertical chains alternating with lamellar units with tilted chains and it is an alternative to the rippled structure proposed for lamellar phase Pβ.
