Abstract

The analysis of aerial photographs has intrinsic problems which are not encountered in many other areas of photograph analysis, such as medical and industrial applications. The problems are that the size of the photographs are very large and that we can do nothing to achieve better conditions when photographing the surface of the earth. Photography can be controlled in medical and industrial applications and some others, but it is impossible in the case of aerial photographs. Another problem in aerial photograph analysis is that, as there are so many different situations on the surface of the earth, it seems hardly possible to establish models which describe the state of the earth’s surface.
