Their entire content is available free of charge, which is much more than can be said for the overwhelming majority of peerreviewed papers. All major patent offices provide bitmap scans online, and mostly also the raw output from an optical character recognition (OCR) process. However, knowledge extraction algorithms can make only incomplete use of these data.
