Abstract

Ultrasonic (US) vibrations prevent formation of foams and promote their destruction, if the vibrating element is placed nearby in the surrounding air. The working distance for rapid foam destruction is 10-15 mm when a sharp vibrating tip is used, but is much larger for a broad tip. Even at greater distances foam is destroyed but the effect needs some time to become noticeable. This agrees with an action of US vibrations through stimulation of squeezing mode surface waves.
