Abstract

We have performed Hall effect measurements on YBa 2Cu 9O 7 and Bi 2Sr 2CaCu 2O 8 single crystals in the normal state and below the superconducting transition temperature (T c). The Hall coefficient (R H ) in the normal state is positive and temperature dependent. In the mixed state below T c it changes sign for both compounds. The R H < O is generated by vortex motion. In the case of Bi 2Sr 2CaCu 2O 8 the flux flow Hall effect is observed even 30 K below T c, while for YBa 2Cu 9O 7 this region is reduced to ≅ 5 K. This difference comes probably from the different pinning strength of the vortices.
