Abstract

The thermomagnetic stability of the Bean critical state in an anisotropic type-II superconducting slab is studied theoretically. It is predicted that in a strongly anisotropic superconducting slab the non-uniform, fingering type instability appears as readily as in superconducting films. In particular, the fingering instability emerges for extremely small rate of the external magnetic field ramp.
