Abstract

AbstractSingle crystals of CaMoO4 and SrMoO4 are grown by a flux‐growth technique using the corresponding chlorides as the flux. The crystal structures of CaMoO4 and SrMoO4 are refined using powder X‐ray diffraction data: space group I41/a (no. 88), Z = 4. Unlike SrMoO4, which can be reduced to SrMoO3, the CaMoO4 decomposes to CaO and Mo in H2/Ar (5%) flow. It is probably because the highly distorted MoO4 tetrahedron in CaMoO4 hinders the structural transition. The distortion of MoO4 tetrahedron is also confirmed by their emission spectra.
