Abstract

Magnetic hysteresis and magnetic relaxation measurements have been made on powder samples ( d⩽20 μm) of Y 1− x Pr x Ba 2Cu 3O y (0⩽ x⩽0.1) with T c ⩾90 K, dispersed in epoxy matrices and c axis aligned in a magnetic field of 5 T. The critical current density J c at 0.5 T estimated from magnetic hysteresis curves was larger for the field direction parallel to the c axis than for it perpendicular to the c axis. J c increased with x for 0⩽ x⩽0.02, took a maximum at x=0.02 and then decreased. All the magnetic relaxation curves at H=0.8 T were linear against In t( t: time). The estimated fluxoid pinning potential U increased with temperature from 4.2 K, took a maximum at about 50 K and then decreased.
