Abstract

An elastic strip in a longitudinal supersonic gas flow is considered. An excess pressure formula is obtained on the basis of the linearized theory of supersonic potential flow. It is shown that, in the case of high-speed supersonic flow, the critical flutter velocity is equal to the phase velocity of perturbation waves propagated along the strip. In the framework of the classical piston theory, the flutter problem is solved for the case of a rigidly fixed strip in a longitudinal flow.
