Abstract
The fluoroberyllates Na 6Pb 4(BeF 4) 6F 2 and Na 6Ca 4(BeF 4) 6F 2 as well as the silicate Ca 6Th 4(SiO 4) 6O 2 have been synthesized. According to x-ray diffraction studies these phases crystallize in the apatite structure type. Intensity calculations reveal a distribution of the large cations for the Pb and Th compounds, where the Pb 2+ or Th 4+ ions are accumulated on the 6h sites of the apatite structure. The fluoroberyllates show interesting relations to sulfate apatites and certain silicate oxyapatites.
